| Rock Village 2008 - Bob Marley statue Last weekend in Banatski Sokolac came off in spirit of good music, dancing, positive energy… Several thousand people gathered in this village in Serbia and the backyard of elementary school was too small for all the people who love rock music. | Mr. Mirko Miljus, organizer of the Rock Village Festival and a man who came up with the idea to erect statue of the legend of the reggae music Bob Marley, stated for the medias: | | “I think that a small community such as ours has a right to say: this man was a great humanitarian, and had values we should all be tending to. Everyone who recognizes Marley’s nonviolent philosophy and human creativity can adopt these postulates. That’s what I say to anyone who asks me for the meaning of the statue. Great musician who was through his verses promoting nonviolent – music fight for equal rights for all people, personality, which has succeeded to rise from the Jamaica ghetto in worlds music elite, the man whom the United Nations awarded a medal for Third countries peace, deserves that its character constantly remind us to universal values. This "fighter for peace with guitar in hand," will remind us that all conflicts can be resolved peacefully, and that the music is universal language that links all the people of the world. At the same time, this is a humble contribution for bringing together two nations that share unenviable destiny of the Third World.” | | Why Bob Marleys monument?In fact, and no word on the classical monument, perhaps before we could say that this is a sculpture of Bob Marley's. Reggae icon sculpture is an expression of admiration for music act that is left behind, but also for the human contribution in the struggle for freedom, equality and equality. Freedom, tolerance among people and equality are the ideas that we in the Rock Village lead and strive daily. He determined that the sculpture is about 190cm, although it is known that Bob Marley was 168cm tall. The sculpture is made of a special material which is thickened poliesterom. Davor Dukić was born in 1979 in Karlovac, Croatia and 2004. graduated from Faculty of Fine Arts, Belgrade, sculpture section. His first one-man exhibition "Idols and toys" had the year 2006 in Dom omladine, Belgrade. He was involved in more expositions and is among the most respective Serbian sculptors. "It is a special honor for me to do sculpture Bob Marley and it is an opportunity and honor, which rarely indicates and significantly known artists” Davor said, since he was elected among several candidates. |
